Item description
THE SHEIK
by E.M. Hull
London: Eveleigh Nash Grayson Limited, no date; [circa 1926-1928].
Vintage edition from the elusive Nash's Popular Library series.
First published in 1911, spawning a sequel, SONS OF THE SHEIK in 1926, this film-based original title is quite SCARCE in this Nash edition, and even more so in the rare dust jacket with evocative, film-inspired art by C. Morse.
Adapted to the 1921 silent film, directed by George Melford, starring Rudolph Valentino and Agnes Ayes.
This film is credited with sky-rocketing Valentino's fame and legend.
Impressively well-preserved and lovely.
Rectangular offset tanning to the front end-paper, upper rear corner tip minutely bumped, else near fine in deep red linen with blind embossed borders and titles to the front cover and with gilt embossed titles and rules to the spine; in a near fine dust jacket with light age-toning to the spine panel, a half-inch tear to the upper front panel edge, and with tiny tears and crimps to the upper spine edge and upper rear panel edge; beautiful front panel art by C. Morse.
