WAYS TO USE STRIPPER TOOLS 1.) Stripping, Dematting Coat/Undercoat: The undercoat is the soft, downy fur that lies underneath the top coat. Our stripper tools are great for bulk stripping of the undercoat during peak shedding seasons. They can also be used as needed to clear out mats, tangles and any loose, dead hair. An undercoat that is able to "breathe" is better able to act as a dog's natural insulation. 2.) Stripping Guard Hairs: Guard hairs are the coarse outer hairs on a dog's coat. On certain wire-haired breeds like terriers, the wiry coat has a cycle where it starts growing and then sheds as it reaches its maximum length. Stripping these guard hairs in conjunction with this shedding cycle makes room for the new coat to grow. Removing loose, dead hairs that are dull and faded allows new guard hairs to come in, showing the dog's true rich color and creating a more uniform, water-resistant coat. 3.) Carding: For some Sporting breeds like cocker spaniels, Springer spaniels and golden retrievers, the outer coat can be so soft that it starts to curl up on the dog's back. You can run our stripper tool across the curly section to cut the curls and give the dog a smoother, more finished top line.
