Item description
This promo print poster which measures only 12" x 6-1/4" is for an iconic Gibson guitar 9-0891: Red Eye, owned by Ed King Skynyrd that was once stolen from the "Sweet Home Alabama" co-writer at gunpoint one Father's Day in 1987, and is now in the custody of the King of Americana, Jason Isbell.
The guitar was originally owned by a great guitar player in central New Jersey and after 7 years of asking, he sold Ed King the guitar in 1982 to pay for a lawsuit, one of his music stores had burned down.
The guitar was sitting in the window of a guitar shop back in 1960. The sunlight caused everything to fade, all the red to fade except where the tag was, so it got a spot. Ed nicknamed it 'Red Eye,' and it was one of his favorite guitars, 'It's the best '59 Les Paul I'ver ever played. It just about plays itself'. Over the years, the guitar had become legendary for its tone.
It took 10 years before Ed King recovered the guitar from a billionaire in Long Island who owned many other fine guitars.
Ed King died on August 22, 2019 at the age of 68 in Nashville. Many important instruments of his ended up in the care of Nashville's famous Carter Vintage Guitars.
Jason Isbell played the guitar during his appearance at the Willie Nelson Tribute on Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena Saturday night (11-12).
In excellent condition.
