Item description
Rare! Large/Heavy SHOCKING/Otherworldly
Porcupine Face in LUCITE BLOCK
Artist signed and labeled
Superb condition 1970?s
This rare riveting shocking image in lucite is a real attention getter.
It?s the penultimate conversation piece .
Measures 9x9x2? thick and 7 pounds.
It is optically perfect and no crazing.
Sharp edges and corners.
It is hand engraved by the artist and also bears the round Edelman Design label.
NOTE: To those of you not familiar, MERLE J. (James) EDELMAN B: 1930 was a successful independent Artist/ Designer with a studio in a townhouse on the Upper East side of NYC.
He attended the Cleveland Art Institute and was the Page Scholarship winner attending Temple University?s Tyler School of Art.
He studied and traveled extensively throughout the world and did contract work for Tiffany, Conde Naste, Vogue, NBC, Casa Bisque, Rubel.
He was skilled in oil, sculpture, porcelain, furniture design, etc etc. - A Renaissance man.
At the age of 16, his sculpture of a boy was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of New York. The seller befriended him in 2017 when he was 87. The seller saw at his residence on the upper west side , a similar block in his personal collection.
This work was obtained from the niece of a former employee of Edelman Design Canada.
It has appeal for:
1. An art collector/ dealer/ museum
2. Mid Century Modern
3. Psychiatrist
4. Lucite sculpture collector
5. Surreal Collector
It?s an object Noir. No one can pass and ignore!!! Its meaning is one of Existential Angst!!! An expression of internal conflict and a state of general unrest. This is possibly an understatement!!!
Please examine photos fully for additional condition information.
May arrive in recycled packaging
These were part of a smoke free and virus free collection
