Review
"...he's distilled the Beatles' songwriting craft for a new generation of singer/songwriters." -- John Platt - WFUV, NYC
"A clear musical vision. Using spare instrumentation he's achieved a full uncluttered sound. It's one of my finds of the year." -- Steve Bornstein - Mixx Magazine
"Melody floats gracefully over the chord changes. The sounds on the record recall the days of silverfaced amps and old telecasters, another Teamaker trademark." -- Jonathan Babu - Northeast Performer Magazine
About the Artist
Marc Teamaker - Vocals, guitar, piano, bass Gina DiSiena - Vocals Joe Foster - Drums
Welcome to Marc Teamakers quirky, complicated world. A maze of engaging sound and harmony splashed against a landscape of sophisticated, wandering tales. Subtle, but threatening. Cryptic, jaded and desperate. A calm masquerade that just cant hide the urgency. This is Marc Teamaker. This is Ping!
In following up on his 1997 release, Lust for Wanda, the New York based Teamaker spins wild, and sometimes disturbing, stories against a wall of melodic pop thats a hybrid of the Beatles, CSNY, Todd Rundgren, early 70s California rock and the alt/brit/pop of Neil Finn and Elvis Costello. Yet, theres no one box that he fits in perfectly. Simply put, while theres a scent of influence wafting around Teamaker, hes too complex to be anyone but himself.
His hand inside a bucket of hornets. His ankle in a trap. And Marc Teamaker is happy. Understand?
Teamakers thought process is more like a jigsaw puzzle in which the pieces dont exactly fit. His mind is a joyride. No need for a road map, the destinations unknown.
And thats precisely what makes Ping an adventure. Theres no recipe, here. All the ingredients have been thrown into the bowl without the use of a measuring cup. Mix it up, pour it out and see how it tastes. Create instead of manufacture. There is a difference.
And such is Teamakers approach, because he knows there is no formula to music. While its a world discovered, it is also one that will never be completely explored. Theres always a new horizon, and Teamaker is willing to play Magellan.
A wolf in sheeps clothing, Teamakers appeal is that while he might not bark, he certainly does bite. And that makes Ping a journey worth exploring, and Teamakers world worth discovery.
