ABOUT THIS ISSUE:
MARTIN MAYER's article on the American legal profession grew out of
a book he is writing on the same subject, which will be published by
Harper Row. Although he is not a lawyer himself, both of his par-
ents are lawyers. For the past six years he has spent half of his time
working on the book, and he has devoted his free moments to reading
legal material. He also did research in Europe to compare legal systems and to get a new perspective on American law. Mayer's previous
books include Wall Street, The Schools and Madison Avenue,
U.S.A.... The science-fiction serial beginning in this issue has an
unusual history. Otto Ktement and J. L. Bixby wrote the original story. Harry Kleiner
adapted it for the screen, and finally ISAAC ASIMOV turned it into the novel that appears in
The Post.... In 26 years of writing W. C. HEINZ has devoted most of his time to sports, but
he also has been a WorldWar II correspondent and has covered everything from medicine
to civil rights. This is his first article on a theatrical personality. Cover by JOHN LAUNOIS.
