Item description
These are 3 beer/bier coaster/mat from the Bavarian brewery Konig Ludwig Schlossbrauerei housed in the Castle/Schloss zu Kaltenberg in the town of Geltendorf. The castle was built in 1292 and endured many destructions and rebuildings over the centuries. The brewery was opened in 1870 and it and the castle are currently owned by Prince Luitpold, great grandson of the last King of Bavaria, Ludwig III, House of Wittelsbach. The brewery produces approximately 250,000 gallons per year. The castle and brewery also house a fine restaurant. The mat was unused when I acquired it and has no stains. It has an off-white background with Wittelsbacher blue printing. On the front is a colorful and decorative version of the Wittelsbach crest including the shield in blue and white diamonds. The reverse refers to King Ludwig beer, "Our noble, dark Specialbeer, with 3 fermenting procedures as in the time of King Ludwig" (loose translation of the reverse) No tears, cracks, stains, or marks.
