The nautical flag "B" or Bravo flag, is used in maritime communication to indicate that a vessel is taking in, discharging, or carrying dangerous cargo. This flag is part of the International Code of Signals, and its primary purpose is to alert other vessels to potential hazards.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Dangerous Cargo:
The Bravo flag specifically signifies that the vessel is handling or transporting hazardous materials, such as explosives or flammable substances.
Warning Signal:
It serves as a warning to other ships to maintain a safe distance and exercise caution when navigating near the vessel displaying the Bravo flag.
Visibility:
The Bravo flag is designed to be highly visible, even at a distance, to ensure its message is clearly conveyed.
International Standard:
It is part of a standardized system of signals used worldwide to facilitate communication and safety at sea.
Bunkering:
In some cases, the Bravo flag is also used during bunkering operations (refueling) to indicate that the vessel is taking on or discharging fuel.
Thanks for looking and have a great day!
