Item description
Offered here is a remarkably well-preserved original 1908 edition of one of the most influential works of the American Temperance Movement. Written by the renowned Dr. James Henry Potts, this substantial volume (approx. 620 pages) served as a primary "weapon" in the moral and political fight that eventually led to National Prohibition. It is a fascinating piece of Americana, filled with dramatic period illustrations, engravings, and social commentary.
[CONDITION REPORT]
This specific copy is in Good to Very Good antique condition, boasting structural qualities rarely seen in books of this age:
Binding: Exceptionally tight and square. The book lies very flat when opened, indicating it has not been over-stressed or poorly stored.
Pages: The interior is pristine and very clean. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting, or owner stamps anywhere in or on the book.
Spine/Cover: There is some damage wear and bumping at the bottom of the spine (typical for its 115+ year age). Importantly, this wear is purely cosmetic and does not affect the tightness or strength of the binding.
Hinges: The internal hinges are strong and fully intact.
[WHY THIS IS COLLECTIBLE]
Unlike the many modern paperbacks and digital reprints available today, this is an original 1908 F.B. Dickerson printing from Detroit. For collectors of Prohibition history, social reform movements, or Michigan-published antiquarian books, the combination of a tight binding and clean, unmarked pages makes this a "superior" copy for a private library.
