Item description
This extraordinary antique Victorian chamber pot was produced by James Edwards Co. of Staffordshire, England, a well-known pottery manufacturer active during the mid-to-late 19th century (c. 18511882).
The piece is crafted in ironstone ceramic, decorated with intricate transferware floral motifs in soft yellows, pinks, and blues, accented by raised scrollwork and gilded trim. The handle is ornately styled with a leafy design, giving it an elegant presence well beyond its original utilitarian purpose.
The underside bears the makers mark for James Edwards Co., along with registration markings. This piece has survived in exceptional condition for its age, with crisp details and only light wear to the gilding.
Details:
Maker: James Edwards Co. (Staffordshire, England)
Date: c. 18511882
Material: Ironstone ceramic with transferware decoration and gilt trim
Dimensions: approx. 9.5 diameter (excluding handle) x 6 tall
Weight: ~4 lbs
Condition:
Excellent antique condition. Expected age-related wear including faint crazing and light fading to gilt, but no cracks or major chips. Remarkably well-preserved for a utilitarian Victorian piece of this age.
This chamber pot is both a rare collectible and a beautiful decorative accent perfect for display in a Victorian-inspired home, a conversation piece, or as a unique planter or centerpiece.
