Item description
BOOKER T. WASHINGTON:
AMBITIOUS BOY
by Augusta Stevenson
Bobbs-Merrill Co., Inc., First Edition, 1950
Condition: Very Good+
This is a children's novel based on the boyhood of the renowned 19th century African-American Booker T. Washington. The book covers his early life under slavery and in the coal mines and his education, ending with his first achievement as an outstanding educator. 199 pages. Charles V. John provides many silhouette-style illustrations. This volume is part of "The Childhood of Famous Americans Series", published by Bobbs-Merrill. This copy is the stated first edition, which has now become a scarce item. Light cover corner and spine end wear; the pages have only light toning; a child's neat pencil printing on the ffep. Otherwise, this is a lovely copy (without the dust jacket), clean and free of any other noticeable wear.
