This is a darling vintage mid century chic cocktail dress by Vicky Vaughn. Marked "Petite Junior," it is a modern extra small - probably a 0 / 2. Semi-fitted chemise dress with wonderful pleated chiffon rhumba/corkscrew ruffle at neck. Very 60's chic! Has an Audrey Hepburn Breakfast at Tiffany's vibe. Soft gathers at neckline, with a columnar straight fit through the body. Caution - Narrow hips! Sleeveless. Unlined. Center back metal zipper. The fabric is a black bonded crepe. Probably rayon, and the backing is probably nylon. Mod length - slightly above the knee on most. In lovely flawless vintage condition. From a smoke-free home. A little history about the Vicky Vaughn label: Vicky Vaughn was the junior division of R M Kaufmann, Inc in Aurora, Illinois. The Kaufman brothers began making ladies dresses in the 1920s. They built their business by producing high quality but moderately priced dresses and sleepwear. The company was able to keep prices low by mass producing garments in their own factories. In fact, their motto was "Only the LOOK is expensive." Sales grew steadily through the use of full page advertisements in Seventeen, Mademoiselle and Charm magazines as well as the use of live television commercials on shows such as "Beat the Clock."
