Item description
'SUBTLE IS THE LORD': THE SCIENCE AND
THE LIFE OF ALBERT EINSTEIN
by Abraham Pais
Oxford University Press, New York, First Edition, 1982
Condition: Fine in About Fine dust jacket
This was the first book to deal comprehensively with Einstein's science, both the successes and the failures. But these sections alternate with sections of complerely non-scientific biography. The author was himself a eminent physicist who worked alongside Einstein, and, in writing this book, he had complete access to the Einstein Archives, as well as the invaluable guidance of Einstein's private secretary. The result is perhaps the best book ever written about one of the most important persons of the 20th century. 552 pages. A few speckles on the dust jacket and the barest hints of wear; virtually an as new copy of this 30-year-old book, which is becoming quite scarce in the First Edition hardcover.
