Item description
Mary’s Giant Elephant Ear
Large 1 Gallon Plant –NOT 4” Starter Size
Colocasia esculenta / Taro / Elephant Ear
Shipping from Florida – not Indonesia or Hawaii – your plants will be received in good condition. Currently growing in a 1 gallon pot – this is not a small, starter plant.
Mary is tall and proud making a stately, tropical presence in any landscape. She grows from 8 to 10 feet tall. She does not run, rather putting up pups at her base (non-invasive). She will be smaller in a container, normally topping out at 5 to 6 feet and makes a wonderful center ‘thriller’ in a container planting.
Hardy in Zone 7 and higher, but in cooler zones just bring in over the winter and place in a cool basement.
This hard as nails lady likes high filtered sunlight but can take it all from full sun to heavy shade. Need a bog / water plant? She is happy to live with wet feet or moist soil.
She is a fast grower. You can expect her to reach her full height by the end of the first summer. Her clump will become larger each year.
These plants have been growing in 4 inch pots and have healthy root systems and are ready to grow in your garden. I will remove her pot, moisture pack her for her time in transit, and probably cut back some of her leaves to ensure her quick establishment in her new home.
Shipments to Hawaii and Alaska require a shipping increase – please contact prior to purchase with your zip code and I will provide the best rates that I can.
Arizona shipments require the additional purchase of USDA Phyto-Sanitary Certificate. Please contact prior to purchase.
Your plants are guaranteed to arrive safely and alive. If you have any issue, please advise within 24 hours of receipt along with a picture of the plant in question and we will work through any problem.
