JANE FREILICHER by Margaret Mathews. Although greatly influenced by the Abstract-Expressionist Hans Hofmann, this New York
artist has become internationally recognized for her realistic landscapes and still lifes. Here the author discusses Hofmann's influence
and the evolution of Freilicher's energetic, vibrant canvases.
ROBERT OSBORNE by Marcia Corbino. This artist's paintings have been called classic, romantic, and surreal, yet none of these terms
completely describes his dazzling painterly technique and mysterious symbolism. Here the artist, who is also dean of the faculty at
the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, discusses the meaning behind his imagery.
KIB BRAMHALL: THE LOVE OF NATURE by Stanley Marcus. According to the author, "Bramhall's intensity of feeling, his love of nature
down to its most minute and almost imperceptible detail, and his clarity of both vision and technique make l3ramhall the powerful
artist that he is." The author goes on to describe the life Bramhall leads on Martha's Vineyard and the landscapes that develop from
that experience.
THE WATERCOLOR PAGE: LOREN BLACKBURN. This self-taught New York artist gives an in-depth explanation of how he creates his
country scenes.
LARRY NOBLE: COLORED PENCIL ILLUSTRATIONS by Diane Casella Hines. One of the country's most talented illustrators, Noble uses
colored pencils as his chief medium to create many of his highly modeled and "seamless," gleaming works. Here the California artist
describes his career and his various assignments for movies and magazines. [Illustrated with color reproductions of some of his work, including the poster for Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, A portrait of Steve Mcqueen and others]
MATTING FRAMING by Rich Murphy On a tight budget? Framer Rick Murphy outlines how to get "more framing for less money.".
