About L. Lou Gordon
"As one of America's most well known Impressionists and as an artist for 40+ years, L. Gordon has been painting in watercolors, oils, acrylics, and pastels creating wonderful images of a variety of subjects: children, historical sites, Civil War scenes, animals, romantic places, just to name a few. Gordon became hooked on art in grade school when he drew a picture on the cover of a geography report and was awarded a better grade. His interest continued in high school and later in college where, in his art studies, he began a lifetime of exploration and work in many styles of artistic creation. During his service in the military in Germany, Gordon had his first opportunity to see Europe and its art treasures; it was love at first sight. The World offered a priceless education, and a career was born on a solid foundation. L. Gordon has enjoyed a life rich in art; he has lived in picturesque locales such as the French Quarter, which was a continuous source of inspiration, to the rugged, western landscape of New Mexico. The artist has traveled throughout the United States and also has spent extensive time in Europe visiting the great museums and sketching the many places that become part of his paintings. He is never without his sketch pad anywhere the artist visits offers an opportunity to create a new canvas. Gordon's worldwide travels in France, Italy, and Spain have inspired many of his images; however, the artist's work rarely depicts any specific place. Anywhere, anyplace, anytime my paintings are from my imagination, inspired by experience, says Gordon. Classically trained and oriented, Gordon acknowledges the influence of impressionist masters such as Manet, Monet, Pisarro, and Sisley. They made wonderful, new discoveries that have helped me make my own. I love to believe I'm part of a long line of traditional painters, says the artist. Gordon supported his craft in the early years as an illustrator and refined his skills at the Munich Academy in Germany and under the tutelage of New Orleans portrait artist Violet Moulin. When the artist opened his own studio, he illustrated children's and teenagers' books and specialized in travel illustrations for advertising. The artist's style that evolved a fast, loose look with strong emphasis on color is the hallmark of his work. From an extensive library of reference photos and sketches gathered from his many years of travel, Gordon chooses a thought in the form of a single image, then builds an imaginary environment around it. On his canvas, he paints in broad areas in soft colors. Next, he selects stronger colors, much like Monet, and applies them in many layers. He then begins to overpaint selected areas, allowing the underpainting to show through. Finally, Gordon adds more color in quick, expressionistic brushstrokes, giving his composition momentum and producing a suggestion of movement, which enhances the compelling vibrancy of his art. The artist and his wife, Jill, travel extensively, but have settled in the beautiful hills of Tennessee outside of Nashville. He spends quite a few weekends painting the many, outstanding landscapes with the Chesnut Group, a plein air organization that raises money for various conservation efforts. Gordon has won many awards for his fine art and also his commercial work.; The artist also paints for major galleries, and many of his original paintings are in private and corporate collections. As a popular teacher of many workshops, L. Gordon has a devoted following of students and admirers. He receives many responses from his collectors and students via e-mail and enjoys the ability to mutually share feelings regarding his work.".

Please read these notes:
• Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you might have; we also welcome your comments, expertise, and suggestions.
• In the absence of subcategories we have placed related items directly beneath the most appropriate category.
• Free shipping applies to most destinations within the contiguous USA but excludes destinations in the states of CA. OR. TX. FL. and WA. Please contact us for rate.
• In all instances we try to honestly depict and describe our items. The lighting on some photos may have been enhanced to correct contrast or adjust brightness to provide a more accurate visual of an item's details and condition since colors may vary due to a monitor settings.
• An offer is not the same as a purchase. By default, your offer will not include shipping. Please calculate the shipping (it appears on the listing) and add it to your offer.
• Unless a seller can make a reference to a specific era when describing an item as “vintage” (e.g. vintage 1930’s hat) it’s useless prattle. We use the term sparingly, but for those who like it, we’ll throw it in now and then.
• Grading systems for books used by most sellers are subjective and can be disappointing; and I hate disappointment. Almost every book I have is new or as new and everything is high quality – no book club editions, or ex-library books.
• We do not use a “standard shipping” rate for books as many dealers do. That term usually means they’ve inflated the shipping charge; this, in turn, marginalizes the bargain you thought you were getting.
• Please use caution when unwrapping glass items; best to unpack while over a bed or sofa.
• If you have additional information about an item or wish to share your knowledge of a particular item, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
• We offer prints made in the traditional way such as serigraphs, stone lithos etc. because they are limited as opposed to reproductions like digital art such as giclees.
• The grading system used by many sellers to describe their books can be, despite best efforts and intent, subjective and often disappointing. You’ll only find high quality material here: most are new or like new. Occasionally, there’s minor shelf wear or a publisher’s remainder mark, but the integrity of the book’s condition is unaltered.
• FEEDBACK: Most welcomed, but please contact us if you are unhappy with your purchase. We have a return policy and will gladly resolve any issue to your satisfaction.
• BOOKS THAT ARE NOT RECENTLY PUBLISHED: A book described as new but published several years ago is a reference to its condition; meaning that the book has never been used but may have minor wear from long term storage.
• We DON’T CHARGE FOR BOOKS TO THE MEN AND WOMEN SERVING IN THE ARMED SERVICES . You will only be responsible for the shipping
• Books may be returned only if not as described.
• REFUNDS: In general: no fuss, and no problem. Items must be returned in the original condition within 10 days of receipt. Items that have been removed from their original sealed wrap (CDs, Books, etc that were in blister packs) will be credited at 80 % of item’s price
• LOSSES AND DAMAGE WHILE IN TRANSIT: For items over $100.00 we will purchase insurance for you at no cost. You must notify us of any loss immediately however.
• INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: We are very appreciative of our international customers and realize that your costs are higher. We will do our best to help you with that disadvantage, often by discounting the item’s price. We will not, however, falsify customs forms by stating that the item you have won is a gift or by stating its value at a fraction of what it really is. Please expect to have to pay customs charges and any related fees. We do not know the customs charges in your country and are in no way responsible for them. Additionally, packages can be held up in customs and take longer than expected for arrival. Unfortunately, we have no control over that.
• Shipping costs often vary based on destination. We offer both standard and priority services. We recommend Standard Parcel Post in the interests of economy.
• We do not do appraisals nor do we purchase unsolicited items; we will, however, consider consignments
• Please be sure you have read these statements and only purchase if you agree with them.
• Be among the first to see new items and don’t miss out on some neat deals; we recommend you subscribe to our booth.
