Item description
Rare antique Strait Richards terra cotta fireplace log sculpture depicting a stack of driftwood logs.
This fireplace "log" was connected to gas pipes in my parents house fireplace and works well. They moved/ retirement home, and so this has been in storage.
This was an invention to disguise the new idea of gas heating which was introduced at the beginning of the 20th century. It replicated the look of the fireplace as it was traditionally viewed whilst being innovative and new in a wealthy household.
Very heavy!
