"La Loie Fuller Folies Bergere" by Jules Cheret ...... Framed Reproduction Print. see photos
excellent condition. Printed in Canada. framed measures 12 1/2" x 15 1/2"
NOTES:
This exuberant image of the American dancer Loie Fuller captures the
cabaret culture of fin-de-siècle Paris. Fuller was an important
attraction, embodying l'Art Nouveau with her innovative choreography and silk costumes illuminated by multicolor electric lighting. Chéret is often regarded as the "Father" of the artistic lithographic
poster.
Loie Fuller, (born Jan. 15, 1862—died Jan. 1, 1928, achieved international distinction for her invention of the “Serpentine Dance,” a striking variation on the popular “skirt dances” of the day. She first presented her "Serpentine Dance," in New York in
February 1892. Later that year she traveled to Europe and in October
1892 opened at Paris' Folies Bergere and quickly became the toast of avant-garde Paris. Lautrec, Rodin and Cheret
used her as a subject.
