Item description
Vintage original 11x14 in. set of 8 (eight) lobby cards from the popular 1990's Internet-themed comedy/drama romance, YOU'VE GOT MAIL, released in 1998 by Warner Bros. and directed by Nora Ephron. Based on the play by Miklรณs Lรกszlรณ and featuring a screenplay by director Ephron, book superstore magnate Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) and independent book shop owner0 Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) fall in love in the anonymity of the Internet, both blissfully unaware that he's trying to put her out of business. The cast includes Greg Kinnear, Parker Posey, Jean Stapleton, Steve Zahn, Heather Burns, Dave Chappelle, and Dabney Coleman.
This complete set of 8 (eight) lobby cards was unused and every card is in very fine+ condition.
The movie's opening and ending titles make use of commonly seen computer images of the time, specifically Windows 95/98. The ending title song, which begins just after the words "The End" appear on the screen, starts with an adaptation of the "startup" sound from Windows 95. One of Nora Ephron's signature film-making quirks was her use of songs to accentuate plot points (one of the chief elements that led her films to be termed 'chick flicks'). When Meg Ryan's and Tom Hanks' characters finally meet in person, with both knowing that they've been e-mailing each other, the song "Over the Rainbow" plays on the film's soundtrack. The duo shared a scene set to the same song in Sleepless in Seattle (1993).
