Item description
Edisto 47 is a large melon with a wonderfully sweet flavor. This variety is a popular salmon-fleshed melon that is mildly sweet and produces strong yields. Edisto 47 has a high sugar content and is a great disease resistant variety. Thriving in the Mid-Atlantic region and hot, humid environments, this variety stands out as the most Downy Mildew resistant and productive among 38 melon varieties rigorously trialed back in 2013. The netted rind encases round-oval fruits, approximately 6-7 inches in diameter. 90 days — The oval fruit grow large (three to five pounds) on vigorous vines. Bred and introduced by Dr. Morris B. Hughes of the Clemson University, South Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station, Blackville, South Carolina. 'Edisto 47' is the result of a stabilized cross between an F8 of a sister line of 'Edisto' with 'Georgia 47' - introduced in 1964.
