Item description
Unique, One of a Kind, Handmade Wood Plaque by modern artist Fred Sichhart in 1976 at the Art Factory.
This one of a kind, vintage, Fleetwood Mac collectible Colorama Art Plaque, in a common 70's and 80's art form; this plaque however is far from common. In fact, it's a piece of art by none other than Fred A. Sichhart, a prominent artist from Indiana. Because of his unique style, character and passion for art, Fred became a very prominent artist in the Chicagoland area.
Fred Sichhart was born in Germany and was professionally trained at the famous art school, Kunstschule, in Augsburg. In 1959, he immigrated to the United States with his wife and daughter. His first art venture began with the opening of his Art Factory where he made a living silk screening rock tees which led to his famous commission to paint a mural on the side of the Hegewisch Records building in nearby Calumet City, IL.
At the time however, Fred became a nationally-revered artist for his bold and impressionistic landscapes, and soon began showing his works alongside other blossoming artists in the Hammond, Illinois town he'd settled in by 1970. On weekends during 3 or 4 months out of the year, he'd setup a showing of his art at Woodmar Shopping Center alongside his contemporaries.
The years that followed elevated Fred from shopping centers to being shown in 4 prominent Chicago art galleries. He was unstoppable as chatter and outstanding show and collection reviews took his notoriety straight to winning top art awards and numerous accolades for his works.
Then something happened. Fred reached a point where he lost all pleasure in painting. His inspiration had evaporated. However it was at that time that he returned to the Art Factory he began long ago and started cranking out these plaques!
This Fleetwood Mac Colorama Art Plaque by Sichhart, as its label shows, was a creation borne of his burn out, but seems to also played a part in his reinvigoration - at least we like to think so. Eventually, Fred picked up the paint brush again and began painting his most memorable and wild paintings yet. They explore his self-identity as an immigrant, and reflect on his tied to the Expressionist movement in post-war Germany, which was a life-defining experience for a young Fred Sichhart.

I've saved a few article clipping from the Times of NorthWest Indiana that, together, paint their own picture of this complex and daring artist. You can see his works on his Facebook page managed by his daughter.
