The heavy duty version you receive will look slightly different cosmetically from the images shown. As for preparation there is no need to remove the metal half of your hinges. Leave them in place on your door. As mentioned, installation does not require specialized service. You just need a handyman or DIY. Repairing your door is 10x cheaper than replacing your whole garage door($2500 average nationwide) or making lots of new holes in your thin steel door trying to modify it to make it work differently. Projects like that never come out quite right and take hours/days of labor. Also a new $2500 entry level garage door will be 10x more noisy than your existing door. It's horrendous.
