Item description
This United States First Day Cover (FDC) features the 5-cent United Nations Air Mail stamp issued in 1959. The cover is postmarked with a clear "First Day of Issue" cancel dated February 9, 1959, from New York, the official First Day City. The cachet is an Artmaster design, rendered in red ink, depicting the United Nations flag flying above the UN headquarters with an airplane flying nearby, along with the denomination and "United Nations Air Mail" text. The words "First Day of Issue" are printed below the artwork in elegant script.
The cover is addressed to Joseph Siner in Gates Mills, Ohio, with a typed address on the front. The back flap bears the sender's name and address, William J. Kolak from Cleveland, Ohio. This collectible piece is a fine example for philatelists interested in United Nations stamps, Air Mail issues, and Artmaster cachets from the 1950s.
