Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mystery Series ? Book 18
Audiobook CD | 5 Discs | 6 Hours | Abridged Edition | Narrated by Judy Kaye | Publisher: Random House Audio | ISBN: 978-0-7393-2086-0
R is for Ricochet is a 2004 mystery novel by Sue Grafton, the eighteenth installment in the Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mystery series, published by G.P. Putnam's Sons and produced in this abridged audio edition by Random House Audio. The abridgment was approved by the author.
The story centers on Reba Lafferty ? daughter of privilege, only child of a devoted father who spent years quietly smoothing over her legal troubles. When that protection wasn't there, Reba was convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to the California Institute for Women. Now thirty-two, she's about to be paroled after twenty-two months of a four-year sentence. Her father, Nord Lafferty, hires Kinsey Millhone for what seems a straightforward job: babysit Reba through her reentry, make sure she stays clean, stays home, and follows her parole conditions. Maybe a week's work. Simple money.
It is, of course, anything but simple. Reba is out of prison less than twenty-four hours before her old crowd comes circling back. Beneath the surface of a money-laundering scheme runs a novel that Grafton herself framed as being fundamentally about love ? love gone wrong, love betrayed, love denied, and ultimately love avenged.
About the Author:
Sue Grafton (1940?2017) created one of American crime fiction's most beloved protagonists in Kinsey Millhone, the tenacious Santa Teresa private investigator at the heart of her Alphabet Mystery series. Beginning with A is for Alibi in 1982, Grafton published twenty-five novels over thirty-five years, earning the Mystery Writers of America's Grand Master designation and a place on the New York Times bestseller list with virtually every new entry. Her work is distinguished by its meticulous plotting, its vivid sense of 1980s Southern California, and a heroine whose independence, dry humor, and moral clarity resonated with millions of readers worldwide.
About the Narrator:
Judy Kaye is the Tony Award-winning actress and voice artist who narrated every entry in Sue Grafton's Alphabet Mystery series on audio. Her Broadway credits span decades, from Oh, Brother! and Grease to On the Twentieth Century, and she created the role of Emma Goldman in Ragtime alongside her Tony-winning turn in The Phantom of the Opera. She received an additional Tony nomination for her portrayal of Rosie in Mamma Mia! Her long association with the Kinsey Millhone series gave her a rare depth of characterization that deepens with each installment.
