Item description
1910 Chromolitho Soap Box Ad Label - Queen Beauty - Victorian Lady - Gibson Girl
Here's a really fantastic 1910 Chromolitho Soap Box Label in pristine condition. This is not a reproduction, but an original label that was once used to cover an expensive box of soaps for the Victorian lady. This is a fine representation of artwork and craftsmanship created at that time. The colors are very vivid, as well as, the details of this fine antique advertisement. The label has raised embossed patterns on the antiqued gold trim. This was obtained as "Old - New Stock" advertising print that had been stored away long after they went out of business.
Label states: Queen Beauty, Toilet Soap, Dr. J.B. Lynas Son, Logansport, Indiana. This label would look wonderful in a vintage frame on a ladyโs dressing room washstand.
The following information was derived from Powellโs History of Cass County Indiana (1913) and the Logansport, Indiana city directory for 19-21-2.
Dr. J.B. Lynas, Logansport, IN, (1825-1901) began manufacturing remedies in his home after a successful medical career. The business soon became too large, and in 1874 he established a laboratory at 409 Fouth Street; later he moved to 210 Sixth Street. In 1904 the firm was incorporated under the name Dr. J, B. Lynas Son [George H.]. In 1906 the company moved to 517 and 519 Market Street. In 1913 there wewre between 1400 and 1500 employees with the firm. The city directory for 1921-22 located the firm at 521-523 E. Market, as Medicine, Flavoring Extract and Toilet Article Manufacturers.
