Wedgwood Christmas 1970 Collector’s Plate and similar items

This the Wedgwood Christmas 1970 Collector’s Plate (#2848) Number 2 in the Christmas series. Made in England, signed JP, 70. It measures 8 inches in dimeter. Matching its predecessor in size, material border design, the 1970 Christmas Plate is in pale blue and white Jasper, handsomely boxed and available only during this year-at the end of which the original model will be destroyed and no further copies made. The 1969 Christmas Plate has already become a greatly sought collector’s piece, and the 1970 edition will prove equally valued. A view of Trafalgar Square focusing on the Norwegian Christmas tree is exquisitely hand-ornamented I white bas-relief with encircling border of holly leaves. Elson’s column guarded by Landseer’s lions, St. Martin’s in the Field’s church and the National Gallery are depicted and is embossed in Blue. Famous all over the world, Jasper was first produced in 1774 by Josiah Wedgwood FRS (1730-950 It was the last ceramic body to be developed by the ‘Father of English Potters’ and has been made continuously by the company ever since.
