Item description
STREET-LAND: ITS LITTLE PEOPLE ANDBIG PROBLEMS by Philip Davis, Assisted by Grace Kroll Small, Maynard Co., First Edition, 1915 Condition: Near Fine in Very Good- dust jacket This book deals with a timely problem in 1915. Quoting from the front flap:
What shall we do with the children whose only place for play is the street? Mr.Davis, who is director of the Civic Service House, Boston, was for five years Supervisor of Licensed Minors of the Boston School Board. He has observed closely, conscientiously and sympathetically, and handles this vital subject from every standpoint. The streets and their subtle relations to home, work and play, school and health, vice and virtue, and many other important phases of child life in Street-Land are dealt with carefully and concretely.
STREET-lAND is a title in the publisher's Welfare Series. 291 pages, with 15 photo plates, mostly of street children, and a Frontispiece illustration based on one of the photos. There are also 8 pages of publisher ads at the back. The book has two lightly bumped corners, two small bumps on the spine and minor edgewear. The exterior (including the two title labels on the front and spine) is otherwise fine. The interior shows no markings or wear, the binding is wholly secure with no hinge or gutter splits. The pages are lightly toned. The jacket has a few edge tears and small chipping, and there are light abrasions and staining; but it is still generally bright and solid. This is a very scarce item in the jacket.
