Botanically, Manjakani (also called Majuphal)
is Quercus Infectoria. It is also known with names like GALL TREE, GALL OAK,
MASIKAI, MAGIC NUT and ALEPPO OAK. In ayurvedic medicine, it is very important
medicinal plant, which is useful for its astringent action. It helps in
diarrhoea, leucorrhoea, uterine prolapse, rectal prolapse, irritable bowel
syndrome, and for tightening the loose or sagging tissues. For therapeutic
purposes, Manjakani, also called Majuphal, is used.
Majuphal is
formed on the leaves of the Oaktree and is known as oak galls. There are
generally two types of Majuphala white gall Majuphala and green gall Majuphala.
Majuphal is useful in wound healing due to its antioxidant and
anti-inflammatory properties. It reduces the risk of skin infection due to its
antibacterial property. It also has an astringent property that constricts the
skin cells or tissues and helps in skin tightening.
As per Ayurveda, gargling with Majuphal decoction reduces inflammation of the
throat and manage tonsilitis. It also prevents bleeding in gums and gives a
cooling and soothing effect due to its Kashaya (astringent) and Sita (cold)
properties.
Majuphal might be used in certain vaginal problems as candida infections due to
its antifungal property. Taking Majuphal powder along with lukewarm water help
manage the symptoms of leucorrhea due to its Kashaya (astringent)
property[2][4].

BENEFITS OF MAJUPHAL
Leucorrhea
Majuphal helps to control the symptoms of
leucorrhea when used internally. Leucorrhea is a thick, whitish discharge from
the female genitals. According to Ayurveda, leucorrhea is due to an imbalance
of Kapha dosha. Majuphal shows a good result in leucorrhea because of its
Kashaya (astringent) property. It helps to control aggravated Kapha and reduce
the symptoms of leucorrhea.
Piles
Piles are known as Arsh in Ayurveda. It is
mainly caused by an unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle and leads to the
impairment of all the three doshas, mainly Vata. An aggravated Vata causes a
low digestive fire, leading to constipation. This causes swelling in the veins
of rectum area leading to piles mass. Majuphal gives relief in swelling of pile
mass and also controls bleeding because of its Kashaya(astringent) property.
Majuphal also reduces burning sensation and discomfort in piles due to its Sita
(cold) nature. It gives cooling effects and reduces burning sensations in the
anus.
Hyperpigmentation
Majuphal is useful to reduce the symptoms of
hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is caused by an aggravation of Pitta dosha
in the body when the skin is exposed to heat or the sun. Majuphal helps in
reducing tanning and pigmentation due to its Ropan (healing) property and Sita
(cold) nature.
Inflamed gums
Majuphal can be used to treat swollen,
spongy and bleeding gums. It has a Kashaya (astringent) property that reduces
swelling and controls bleeding. It also produces a cooling and soothing effect
on the gums due to its Sita (cold) nature.
