Motorola Phone W408G
Customer Reviews Synopsis
I have had many Motorola phones, lately a 2014 Moto-X.
I bought this Moto-X4 phone after considering a Pixel 3 or Pixel II XL but I could not resolve myself to carrying a $900 (or so) phone in my pocket, knowing that my phone goes everywhere I go and that involves occasional meetings with the pavement. The Motorola phones are usually great for at least 2 main reasons: 1) clean Android experience with thoughtful Motorola apps and gestures, and 2) good ergonomics (the 2014 Moto-X with its leather back is not only beautiful to see but also to hold). The Moto-X4 does not disappoint even though I immediately bought a case to protect the shiny back.
The biggest surprise was the battery life. I never had a phone that would run all day, I usually had to recharge my old phone some time between coming home from work and dinner time. With the Moto-X4, I never went to bed with less than 45% battery, and that was on a busy day with a couple hours of Google Maps navigation. Usually it's around 70% battery left by bedtime. You do not have to be very careful to get two work days out of a charge. I have not even turned on battery saver yet.
The phone is fast, the camera is OK, like most Motorola phones, nothing to write home about.
The LCD screen is not as good as the OLED screen of my previous phones. It is probably the weakest point of the phone. The bright colors tend to wash out a little. But it is very bright, very sharp and has a wide view angle with very little color shifting when you are off-angle, so it is probably an 8 out of 10.
Finally, the phone was upgraded to Android 9 in mid-January, a week or so after the operating system was released.
Overall I am extremely pleased. At the price, I may buy a second one for backup, and that will still be much less than half the price a Pixel 3...
I am in infrequent cell phone user. Only the basics. I bought this dinosaur to repleace an identical one. SO I could use my chargers and there would be no "learning curve" for me. No aurprises.
