Perennial, Strelitzia reginae, Blooms are similar in appearance to a bird's head. The multi-colored bloom is 6 to 8" in length. Colors include orange, copper, blue and red. Very unusual flower. The plant likes temperatures above 50 degrees F, so in most places it is better to plant in a pot and keep indoors during the winter and move outside in the summer. Flower seeds are slow to germinate, taking up to 21-56 days to germinate or more. Soak the hard seeds for 24 hours and remove the orange tuff of hairs. Plant 1" deep in moist potting soil. Partial shade to full sun.
Height: 2 - 4'
Zones: 9 - 11
