Item description
This woodland gem is native to Europe and of course, England! For centuries, English Bluebells have carpeted deciduous forests, perfuming the air in Spring. Unlike the Spanish Bluebell, which grows tall and has no fragrance, Hyacinthoides non-scripta has deep, sapphire-blue bellflowers on nodding racemes, 12-15" in height. English Bluebells thrive in moderately moist, well-drained humus rich soil. Likes bright, dappled sunlight. Will self-reseed and naturalize, spreading via clumping bulbs. Guaranteed to be the original, native British Bluebell and not hybridized with the Spanish bluebell.
Sowing Instructions: Since this plant is a temperate bulb, the seeds require a warm period for at least 4-6 weeks, followed by a cold period for at least 6 weeks. If direct sowing, plant directly in the ground or in pots ideally located where you want your plants to grow. Maintain average moisture and leave the pot outside even through winter. Protect pots from foraging critters. Alternatively, place seeds in moist media or paper towel and place in a plastic bag. Keep warm and moist for 4-6 weeks (room temperature is sufficient), and then place in refrigerator for 6 weeks, and then sow into pots or trays. You cannot skip this step or the seeds will not germinate - but very much worth the wait!
