COVER: Good Morning John, by Loring W. Coleman, 1982, watercolor, 20 x 28. Collection Andrew Coleman.
FEATURES:
LORING W. COLEMAN, by M. Stephen Doherty. As he has for decades, Loring W. Coleman drives off every morning into the
Massachusetts countryside to work on drawings and paintings that are large and precisely detailed.
A PAINTING SAFARI THROUGH SOUTHERN AFRICA, by Kathleen Thomas. The landscape of southern Africa is one of the few
places on Earth where wild animals still roam untouched by civilization. There, many wildlife artists study these animals and
preserve their beauty in art. In this article, five of those artists describe their experiences.
ROB EVANS, by Nancy G. Heller. This Pennsylvania artist, whose paintings were included in the magazine's Golden
Anniversary Exhibition in 1987, describes his drawings and his mixed-media paintings.
PEN INK: RALPH D. SCOTT, by M. Stephen Doherty. In this article, Ralph D. Scott, an artist and illustrator from
Massachusetts, describes his approach to both blackand-white and colored-ink drawings.
PHILIP GRAUSMAN, by Lynn Kari Petrich. This Connecticut artist offers room, board, training, and a stipend to apprentices
who help him create metal sculptures. One of those large sculptures was recently awarded a gold medal in the Annual
Exhibition at the National Academy of Design.
RICHARD SAVINI, by Don Lambert. Although he works directly from the model, this California painter is not concerned with
presenting the specific features of the person or the gentle folds of the fabric around the figure.
THE WATERCOLOR PAGE: DIANE CRANE.
WHEN THE CHEERING STOPS, by Daniel Grant.
