Item description

This is a vintage July 20, 1959 unused ticket stub for ABC show held at the Elysee Studio located at 240 West 44th Street between B'way and 8th Avenue, New York: Across The Board starring Ted Brown. 5:15pm show. The Elysee Studio was originally designed by actor-turned-playwright John Golden in 1926 although the main designs were by architect Harrison G. Wiseman. He named it The Golden Theatre. After nearly a decade, Golden was forced to sell due to the Depression and in 1935, John Cort took over and renamed it Cort's 58th Street Theatre. Cort gave up the theatre and began to screen foreign movies under the name Filmarte Theatre. After a few more owners and change of names, it was leased by the ABC network and in the late 1940s, it was renamed the Elysee Theatre featuring foreign feature films. In 1955, ABC used it as a television studio until it closed in 1985. It was demolished a few months later. Across the Board was a game show where people attempted to solve a crossword puzzle using only clues and pictures provided. New York Radio personality Ted Brown hosting this short-lived daytime series. The announcer was George Ansbro. Measures 5" x 1-1/2 with hinge mark at back taken from a photo album.
