This is an antique Edme' Sansom Meissen style floral demitasse/espresso cup and saucer set. Edme' Sansom of Paris, 1810-1891, was the founder of Sansom Edme' et Cie Paris commonly known as Sansom Ceramics a porcelain manufacture. Sansom was a famous copyist of fine porcelain and pottery making high quality copies or reproductions of museum pieces. This demitasse set is in the Meissen style of floral porcelain. On the underside of the cup and the saucer it is marked with crossed swords and an S between the hilts. This was Sansom's mark used on replicas of German, primarily Meissen, porcelain. The cup and saucer have a scalloped edge with gold edging. The cup measures approximately 2 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches across without the handle. The handle adds another 5/8 inches across. The saucer is approximately 4 1/4 inches across and 1 inch tall. Both the cup and the saucer have a small circular foot that is unglazed on the bottom. There are no chips, cracks, discolorations, or repairs. The gold edging has occasional very small losses. I believe that Sansom porcelain was hand painted. I am downsizing and am selling most everything. non-smoking household.
