Item description

Brand new factory sealed dvd of John Water's unrated cut. Johnny Depp, a kid from the wrong side of the tracks, falls for Amy Locane, goes to jail, wins a chicken run, and sings. The musical follow-up to 'Hairspray' is set in 1954 Baltimore, where the squares battle the "drapes". Susan Tyrell and Iggy Pop are CRY-BABY's white-trash parents. Ricki Lake, Traci Lords, and Kim McGuire as Hatchet Face are drape girls. With Willem Dafoe as a prison guard and Polly Bergen as the rich grandmother. Wade Walker (Depp) is Baltimore's number one bad lad, hanging out with his gang of drapes beneath whose tough exteriors beat hearts of solid gold. Allison Vernon-Williams (Locane) is the epitome of feminine decency among the affluent social elite, but she's bored with being a 'square'. She hankers to experience the liberated feeling accompanying acts of delinquency, and when she first locks eyes with Walker her heart goes pitter-pat. But for Allison's would-be suitor Baldwin (Stephen Mailer), no trick is too dirty in the war for her affections... John Waters first foray into mainstream has enough weirdness going on that viewers shouldn't expect a 'Grease' wannabe. Drinking a beaker full of your own tears is quease-inducing enough but, the elastic tongue action during a lengthy French kissing scene is also enough to make you choke on your popcorn. And check out these odd couples: Patti Hearst and David Nelson, Joe Dallesandro and Joey Heatherton, and Troy Donahue and Mink Stole. One poor taste gag involves a punctured wheel on Mink Stole's mobile iron lung. So, in spite of the family friendly facade of grand scale musical numbers, the zany soundtrack and quirky black humour reminds you of who's holding the tiller.
