Item description

Historic one-of-a-kind antique real photo stereoview of the General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park, California. And on the other side of the card a unique stereoview of Cypress trees seen on 17 Mile Drive in California. Taken by a private photographer. Date unknown. General Sherman is the name of a Giant Sequoia. It is one of the tallest Giant Sequoia trees in the world with a height of about 275 feet (84.8 metres). Although not the tallest tree in the world (coastal redwood being taller), it is the biggest in terms of volume, making it the world's largest known single organism by volume. The 17 Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach, California, United States, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses and mansions. It also serves as the main road through the gated community of Pebble Beach. Condition: Stereoviews are in excellent condition. Note: This is part of a collection of images by an unknown photographer who traveled along the west coast from Washington to California and other northwest states with his stereoview camera. His cards were all homemade and had typed and handwritten captions. Many of the images are expertly composed and are stunning in their beauty and historical significance. Some of the cards including this one are double-sided.
