Item description
I have owned this piece for at least 40 years. It was purchased to wear in our 1924 touring. It has been stored wrapped in tissue paper and in a box to keep it from deteriorating. The piece itself is black (silk?) fabric. The shoulders upper arms are enclosed with rows and lines of beading like a net down to the elbow approximately. It is tiny--perhaps a size 2 or zero. I believe it would be worn over a black strapless or spaghetti strap dress. The collar stands up in the front and has a hook closure like a furrier closure. The collar and front are decorated with embroidery that contains beading as well. The design is leaves I would say. The bottom has a fringe of beading. It is pictured on a hanger that is too large and I put it over a t shirt for the photo so there was adequate contrast. Down the back is a strip in an upside down "V" that is accented with beaded embroidery and fringe at the bottom made from beads. The piece is showing a little wear in the front where some of the stitching is coming loose (photo 3) but certainly I would think it could be repaired. If you are a person who has a hobby that involves period clothing this is a lovely piece. It is very gatsby-ish. The base material may be silk and it is lined. The lining at the neck in the back is coming apart. Contact me with questions should you need more information. Women wore a vest like this when they were in mourning over a more colorful dress because they tired of wearing just black. I saw the same item on EBay for considerably more money,
