genuine, original "Le Punch Grassot" Maitre de L' Affiche lithograph # 5 by Jules Cheret framed in stylized wood deco frame. Issued around 1895, the embossed maitre stamp is on the bottom right beautifully framed and ready to hang. Framed measures 15 3/4" x12 3/4 VG condition. faint corner crease bottom left; faint small crease middle far right NOTES: Les Maitres de l'Affiche" was a monthly subscription series mailed to collectors from December 1895 through November 1900. Subscribers received 4 loose Maitres (mini advertising posters) and were issued as separate numbered sheets (plates) Printer: "Imprimerie Chaix", and , The Plate # (PL) was in the bottom margins and each maitre had an embossed maitre stamp. There were 256 plates issued which encourage people to collect advertising posters. Jules Cheret, referred to as the "Father of the Poster", created this series, and included his own art in the series as well as those of other artists.
